Any website that has been created and hosted on the web needs visitors. Having a website with out promotion or a reasonably strong marketing strategy is like having your hand bills printed and stored in your office without sending it out for distribution. You will NOT get any response from the hand bills that are inside your cup boards. Likewise, once completing the website designing and hosting, the site thas to be submitted to search engines data base for indexing your website.
And just submitting your web site to various search engines doesn't mean that you will get visitors. Even though you have submitted, the site will be listed based on the keywords or phrases that was used by a user of the search engine to search for a particular content. In this process your site will be nowhere in the lisinting. To get your site listed in the first 3 pages of the SERP's you have to modify your website. This tweaking methodology is called OPTIMIZATION or Search Engine Optimization.
Search engine optimization or organic SEO is not a one day process and need to tweak the website for optimum performance on a regular basis.
The seo of a website has two steps :
1. On page optimization - Optimizing your webpages
2. Off page optimization - Search Engine Submission, Link Building, Link Exchanges, Banner Ads.
